"At first, the main motivation for creating the Business Network for Life Cycle Assessment was to articulate business engagement to advance the construction and consolidation of a national Database. At the time of Rio+20, in 2012, several publications referred to the importance of integrated impact management: the United Nations Life Cycle Initiative, “The Future We Want”, the WBCSD “Vision 2050”, and a Manifesto of the UN Global Compact in Brazil. At Braskem, we adopted this perspective in our businesses and in various corporate commitments, identifying opportunities to increase operational efficiency, develop more sustainable products, achieve strategic differentiation and forge important partnerships. Rede ACV went beyond what we imagined. It became an environment where companies share their learnings in applying life cycle thinking and LCA across its many possibilities. From theory to practice, the group has been working to remove the obstacles to a wider adoption of this concept by companies and society in decision-making, to strengthen the contribution to sustainable development.”

When Rede ACV was launched, the greatest challenge was bringing the business perspective closer to the government's. There were different understandings regarding data collection and use, the need for capacity building, and everyone's role and engagement over time. Rede ACV became the environment for debating and reaching these consensuses, culminating in the establishment of its legal status as an association in 2017 to enable partnerships.”
